Application: Airbag ECU HiL Simulation

To create a complete HiL simulation for the airbag control unit, it is necessary to have access to the control unit's internal acceleration sensor signal (SPI) as well as the peripheral acceleration and pressure sensor signals (PSI5). In addition, ignition timing can be measured and analyzed using a SQUIB box. The SQUIB box can also be used to measure and analyze ignition timing, as well as to connect to the simulator's computer system via a USB port/network for data processing.

Typically, up to six or more PSI5 emulators and multiple SPI emulators can be running at the same time. For coordinated operation, there is an upper level configuration that determines the signal traces corresponding to each emulator, as well as a detailed configuration for use with bus parameters. This upper level configuration allows easy operation of the API and continuous control of the sensor signals.

PSI5 Bus

PSI5 is a cost-effective sensor interface commonly used in the automotive industry. The control unit can communicate with one or more peripheral sensors. The sensor data is transmitted via current modulation on the power line.
The data frame used by the PSI5 consists of two start bits, 8 to 24 user data, and a parity check bit or optionally three CRC bits. The data transfer cycle is initiated by a voltage synchronization signal from the ECU.
