SENT Bus Gate Technical Data
The SAE J2716 (SENT) to RS-232/CAN bus gateway features two bi-directional SENT channels, two analog output channels, and an RS-232 or CAN bus interface.

Product Features
- SENT to CAN/RS-232 Gateway
- SENT Recorder/Tester/Simulator
- Each channel can be configured to receive (RX) or transmit (TX), and the channels operate independently of each other.
- Supports fast, short and enhanced sequence messages.
- Configurable SENT channel parameters -- tick time, half-word bytes
- Supports minimum 5 microsecond tick time
- On-board permanent memory
- Smart Message Filter Function
- Injectable CRC error test
- Customizable hardware and firmware on demand
Specification
- 2 SAE J2716 (SENT) channels
- 2 analog output channels (12-bit digital analog converter, 0-4.095V)
- 1 DSUB9F interface (RS-232/CAN), 1 8-pin terminal block
- Input Power: 9-30V DC
- 4 LED indicators (3 status indicators, 1 power indicator)
- 1 reset switch
- 5V DC output with overcurrent protection
- Size: 108 × 54 × 30 mm
- Supports desktop or DIN rail mounting
Product Advantage
Supports fast, short and enhanced sequence message formats.
The user can set the channel parameters (direction, tick time, half-byte count, filtering) and store the settings in the device's non-volatile memory. Each SENT channel can be independently configured to meet a variety of application scenarios: 2 receive channels/1 receive and 1 transmit channel/2 transmit channels.
Provides two analog output channels
The converter provides two analog output channels (12-bit digital analog converters) to convert the input SENT data frame directly to analog voltage. Each analog output channel can be mapped to any SENT channel, and the conversion parameters are fully customizable: start bit, bit length, and linear transfer functions (multiplier, offset, min/max).

Introduction of Smart Filtering
The device introduces intelligent filtering of incoming SENT frames to prevent overloading of RS-232 or CAN communications. CAN models can be configured with customizable CAN identifiers for transmission and reception, allowing multiple devices to run on the same CAN bus at the same time. The device firmware can be upgraded via a PC.
Provide free PC applications
The SENT Gateway Analyser PC application is provided free of charge to configure the device and to monitor, record and simulate SENT communications. A communication protocol is provided via RS-232/CAN to allow users to integrate the device into existing systems such as test benches, hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) devices, and off-line testers. The protocol supports configuration of SENT and analog channels, and can send/receive SENT fast and slow messages, as well as inject CRC errors into fast and slow messages.
Software and System Integration
- Provides communication protocols that can be integrated into existing systems
- Free SENT Gateway Analyser PC application for setting up, receiving, transmitting and logging
- NET SDK (DLL) for software integration to set up gateways, start/stop SENT channels, and send/receive fast and slow SENT messages
- Analog output channels can be used to connect SAE J2716 buses to systems that do not support SENT.
- Device firmware can be upgraded from a PC.
Note: The SENT Gateway Analyser application runs on any RS-232 interface (COM port). For SENT-CAN models, the application uses the Kvaser CAN driver to communicate over the CAN bus, so a Kvaser CAN interface is required when using SENT-CAN models. Users can also control the device directly via raw CAN messages.
NET SDK (DLL)
NET API (DLL) for software integration to configure gateways, start/stop SENT channels, and send/receive fast and slow SENT messages in a Microsoft . This SDK is compatible with SENT-CAN, SENT-RS232 and SENT-USB.
SENT-CAN Note: Since the SDK uses the Kvaser driver, it needs to be used with the Kvaser CAN interface.
