What are they working on?

With a wide variety of products and small batch sizes, incoming material inspection has become a bottleneck.

The family-owned KRONE Group is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial vehicles and agricultural machinery and is regarded as a “hidden champion” in its sector. Like many of its peers, KRONE operates in a fast-paced, customized production environment characterized by numerous product variants, some of which are produced in small batches. This places significant pressure on quality assurance—in the past, reliance on manual visual inspections was both inefficient and error-prone; meanwhile, precision coordinate measuring machines, while accurate, lacked flexibility and often intervened too early in the process, slowing down the workflow. In addition, many large components are stored outdoors, requiring parts to be moved to the quality inspection area for each inspection. As a result, KRONE began searching for a more efficient, flexible, and time-saving inspection system.

Why Did They Choose Twyn?

Three Reasons for Decision-Making

  • “Twyn is so easy to implement—that’s exactly what won us over.” Without requiring significant integration efforts or specialized knowledge, even frontline employees unfamiliar with AR can use it on a daily basis—their primary goal is to ensure quality, not to become AR experts.
  • Wide Range of Applications: Whether it’s large or small items, individual parts or entire assemblies, Twyn can handle them all, and its range of applications is truly promising.
  • Ready to Use: With the Twyn Studio desktop application, you can configure an inspection case based on CAD/3D data in just a few minutes, with no preprocessing required.
Application Process

How does Twyn work?

1
Import and ConfigurationImport CAD/3D models of parts into the Twyn Studio desktop app and configure a test case in minutes—not hours.
2
On-Site AR ComparisonBy overlaying physical objects with CAD specifications in augmented reality (AR), the system automatically detects deviations without the need for markers or preprocessing, and highlights discrepancies between target and actual values almost instantly.
3
Digital Records and FeedbackFully digital, real-time archiving enhances traceability; the feedback loop between production lines and design is shorter, allowing issues to be corrected immediately at the source.
Real Results

Where Do These Numbers Come From?

During a quality audit of a batch of Comprima round balers, Twyn discovered a misaligned bolt—which was preventing the guard from closing completely; At the same time, it revealed an overall tilt in a certain sub-structure—the kind of issue that often eluded even the trained human eye in the past and repeatedly caused problems during subsequent assembly. With the help of AR visualization overlays and automated detection, error localization has become faster and more accurate. Based on comprehensive pilot calculations, the overall results are as follows:

"What really impressed us was that, thanks to augmented reality inspections, our work has become much faster than before—especially the preparation time before each inspection, which has been significantly reduced. There’s enormous potential here."
