Key Features
PSF series automatic colony counters can quickly and automatically measure the number of colonies present in a set area under the specified measurement conditions by means of image processing technology. It solves the problems of long time spent on manual counting, inconsistency of visual measurement, low accuracy of measurement, and inability of color separation of existing measurement equipment.
uniform illumination
In terms of hardware, with our original illumination technology, a uniform background can be obtained under both bright field and dark field conditions. In addition, using this software, it is also possible to correct the uneven brightness of the culture base itself, and to make the background uniform in all areas except for colonies.
Height-adjustable upper lighting
Upper illumination is required for samples whose culture medium is not transparent to light, or for detecting colonies by color. The height position of the upper illumination can be changed. With this function, the outline of the colony can be clearly photographed.
Manual Calibration
After automatic counting, manual calibration is also possible. The manual correction in the PSF series has three functions: adding false negative colonies, deleting false positive colonies or deleting part of the counting area. The operation is easy to perform with the mouse.
Automatic Petri dish position setting
Detects and automatically sets the measurement area for round petri dishes.
Simple Counting
Automatic binarization function enables counting without setting any troublesome conditions.
Simple color counting
Using the Lab color space, which is close to human vision, you can set up measurement conditions with just a click of the mouse!
Product Lineup

PSF-1100
A low-cost model with functions required for general colony counting.

PSF-2200
It is an all-round model suitable not only for research and inspection but also for a variety of applications.

PSF-5200
High-end model with a good balance of performance and cost. Ideal for counting small colonies.

PSF-7200
The top of the line model with a 35 micron resolution. It can also be used to count stained cells.

PSF-5200/7200L
Models supporting Φ150mm and 144 x 104mm petri dishes. PSF-7200W also supports 240 x 240mm petri dishes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Generally only the surface of the sample table needs to be cleaned. The lighting system is LED and needs to be replaced after about 40,000 hours. Because they are the normal commercial version, they are very low cost and easy to replace.
Since you can set various sizes of concentric circles on the PSF series, there is no problem.
Yes, existing images can be loaded and remeasured.
Individual colonies can be added or deleted, or unwanted areas can be removed by mouse operation.
Yes, you can, the report format is built into the software. It is possible to transfer data to the format, in addition to saving the data in csv format and saving the image in bmp, gif, jpg or tif format.
Up to 10 zones can be measured.
Yes, the software can calculate the diameter based on the detected area.
No, it is not possible to automatically detect colonies in the entire area of the petri dish. It is necessary to set the measurement area in the part of the petri dish where the culture medium becomes higher at the periphery of the petri dish. However, the number of colonies in the measurement area can be converted to the total number of colonies in the whole petri dish.
It's okay.
It is possible to measure opaque media using upper illumination.
The height position of the upper lighting can be changed.
With this function, the outline of the colony can be clearly photographed.
However, height adjustment of the upper lighting is only available in the PSF-2100.
There are two types of plates: for colony counters and for the measurement of the ring of inhibition.
Both can issue calibration certificates.
No autofocus function.
However, the depth of field of the PSF series is approximately ±50mm.
As a result, it is not necessary to adjust the focus during normal measurement.
Note: Depth of field is the area in front of and behind the point of focus where the subject is in focus.
You can output the measurement results in excel format and the measurement conditions in xml format.
To import the format into LIMS, contact the provider.
